I’m always keeping a pulse on insurance industry resources. It’s part of my daily routine: a cup of coffee and my favorite blogs, twitter handles, or podcasts help me stay in the know on what’s happening in the independent insurance universe.
Though these online resources are great, it’s even better when I can get together with other industry professionals to exchange ideas and encourage progress. With industry groups, I get daily updates and in-person meetings through conferences and other events.
We at SIS participate in many influential industry groups. Below are a few of our “must joins” for those looking to stay connected in insurance.

The Partner XE User Community
The Partner XE User Community is made up of all our Partner XE users. One of the main goals of this community is to shape the future of the Partner XE management system. In this user community, agents can access the product roadmap and understand what SIS has planned for upcoming releases.
Agencies can also communicate what they’d like to see changed or improved in the Partner XE system. Improvements could be a change in workflow, an additional feature or enhancement to an existing feature, or an integration with a third-party product their agency is using or would like to use.
The Partner XE Community also has an active User Board made up of nine agencies from across the United States. Board member are great contacts for Partner XE users to voice their ideas for improvements or about questions regarding how to maximize system use.

Agents Council for Technology (ACT)
Led by Executive Director Ron Berg, Agents Council for Technology (ACT) is an essential group for agents to keep up with technological advancements, and their risks, in the industry. ACT has several simultaneous workgroups running focused on disaster planning for agency owners, security best practices, changing nature of risk, new technologies, and much more.
The organization also holds in-person meetings throughout the year, usually tied to a Solution Providers User Group conference. The ACT group is made up of agents, solutions providers (i.e. agency management systems, esignature companies, and VOIP), carrier representatives and industry influencers.

Associations and User Groups Information Exchange (AUGIE)
The Associations and User Group Information Exchange (AUGIE) was created to “bring together industry leaders and create a focus on insurance industry efforts”, with a specific attention to independent agents and brokers. AUGIE brings together carriers, agents, and management system providers to create a hub for innovation and improvement.
AUGIE always has an eye on market changes. It prioritizes a few key areas, including eDocs and Messages Download, claims download, and commercial lines download. Partner agents can attend bi-annual meetings and participate in workgroups focused on technology and interactions with insurance carriers. It’s a great organization for agencies looking to maximize technologies available in the industry.
SIS as an Industry Leader
No man is an island: nor should any insurance industry service provider operate alone! We at SIS are highly involved with the above industry groups, including sponsoring and actively participating in AUGIE’s Advisory Board since 1995. We feel it’s important to interface regularly with other industry players; it helps us stay hungry and independent.

When Denise Joy joined Elizabethtown, KY-based Bluegrass Insurance Services in 2012, she was excited to be part of a hard-working, fast-growing business. The Bluegrass motto “We’ll do anything” speaks to the level of service and personal attention found in this independent insurance agency.
However, it quickly became clear Bluegrass’ needs were growing, but their insurance management system was not. Denise described the system as “cumbersome,” coupled with out-of-touch support and zero training. Suffice to say it was time for a change. “We realized our agency was growing and we had to get a better solution,” Denise said. “We couldn’t wait any longer.”
So, Denise and her team reconnected with a provider and system they’d demoed previously: SIS and Partner XE. With SIS and Partner XE, Bluegrass found a partner that listened and a system that evolved with them.
When asked about the switch to Partner XE and SIS, Denise had this to say: “They have people who are willing to help when you reach out, no matter what your need may be. You just can’t beat that level of attentiveness and support.”
We talked with Denise about Bluegrass’ insurance management system transition including touching on:
- What led them to seek a new management system solution
- How they researched Partner XE and SIS
- What stands out in the Partner XE system
- Where Partner XE benefits their agency most

The Partner XE community closed out 2017 with a unique Regional Learning experience. Partner agencies joined us from Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, and even New York state to participate in our first ever track-based Regional Learning event.
This past month we came back for round two with the Insurors of Tennessee at their Nashville headquarters. This year’s Regional Learning brought attendees from multiple states to learn about the latest Partner XE enhancements and updates. Community members came from across
Attendees got first-hand expertise from SIS’s Jake Thaxton, Nick Massaro, and President Michael Doran. Each played an important role in facilitating theTennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia to experience these new capabilities and find out how to most effectively integrate them into their agencies for increased efficiency. training. The Regional Learning could not have happened without the efforts Insuror of Tennessee’s own Daniel Smith and Ellie Small, whose coordinating efforts created a positive experience for everyone. Special thanks to Indium’s Margot Koester for joining us and sharing Indium’s independent agency-specific training curriculum.

Jake Thaxton, SIS Client Services Manager, led the training sharing his broad knowledge and sense of humor. Many attendees were returners from last year’s training and came prepared with questions and comments to further improve the Partner XE system. The sense of camaraderie, collaboration, and learning was evident throughout the day.
One attendee put it best: “Rarely do I make that drive and leave happy I took a day out of the office. This event was one of those days where I was genuinely pleased to have (attended).”
We feel the same. Many thanks to all who made the trip! We look forward to continuing our collaboration and seeing everyone again in 2018.

When Kathy Mulder of Nolan Insurance Agency heard her current management system was being retired, she did anything but panic. With nearly 50 years of service behind them, Kathy and her team knew this was an opportunity to find a provider they could keep for another 22 years.
“We hosted over 12 different agency management systems and asked them questions to uncover whether they could help us provide the level of customer service, and solid insurance solutions our customers expect,” Kathy said of the evaluation process. SIS and Partner XE were among those dozen providers.
We talked with Kathy to find out what she was looking for in an agency management system provider, and how SIS and Partner XE fit the bill. In our conversation we covered:
- The importance of personalized service
- The best Partner XE features
- How to prepare for a management system switch
- The truth behind data conversion

Our Partner XE Regional Learnings continue to expand! Earlier this month, the SIS team traveled east for a Regional Learning in Greensburg, PA near Pittsburgh. SIS President Michael Doran recapped the event below.
We couldn’t have felt more at home at our Partner XE Regional Learning event at Tuscano Agency in Greensburg, PA. Pinnacle Group Insurance Services’ Kirk Haldeman and Rob Tuscano, Robin Tuscano, Jeremy George and the rest of the team at the Tuscano Agency brought a positivity and warmth to the training that extended for the day.

The Western PA Partner XE Community gathered for four hours of high-quality training. While four hours of software training may sound tiresome, nothing could have been further from the truth. Between Browns/Steelers barbs and Penn State/Ohio State jibes, good laughs were shared by all.
Manager of Client Services Jake Thaxton led the training, keeping it both lively and informative. Here’s what our community members had to say about the training:
“…I thought the workshop was excellent and look forward to sharing the changes with our staff. Thanks for continuing to improve the system!”
“Thank you for a very informative couple of hours. We’re excited to move forward with SIS. Everyone I’ve worked with on your staff is very helpful and professional. It’s much appreciated.”
